If you live in New England, you already know that it has snowed, and snowed, and snowed. This is the first winter where I really feel I’ve been taking it pretty well, been keeping busy and it hasn’t brought me down too much. Obviously some days are harder than others and the cold gets to you after a while. I miss the bright summer days filled with greenery and not having to leave an extra half hour of time when getting out of house to bundle up and brush off the car. It’s been tough for everyone but I’m keeping optimistic and trying my best to get the most out of the slow season. I’m pushing myself to photograph every week, and it’s been alright so far. I’m baking and cooking more which I thoroughly enjoy (especially the part where you eat it) and building up my food portfolio yet again. The wedding season tends to distract me a bit from this, and I feel like the winter months are great for honing in on my craft and really trying to learn more about the way I see and think and work when it comes to my food photography, and just photography in general. I truly love all of the jobs I get to do and all of the opportunities this career path has brought me to.
Recently I held a gallery night to showcase the images I took on my road trip across the country this past summer. I also sold and am selling prints and a book! It’s been amazing to hear what others think of my work after looking at the images for so long by myself.
As you can imagine, I’m itching to travel again and I’ve been trying to figure out the next place to go. I vowed that every year I would go someplace I haven’t been before and hope to keep it up if I can.
For now I’m going to keep chugging along and working on business, networking, promoting, etc.. to keep this passion going.
The pictures below are from the past few months, a trip to Vermont with my boyfriend where I was sick but we had a lot of fun exploring the Burlington and Hinesburg area. We had great luck with an AirBnB find (click here to get $25 toward your first trip!) with hosts who made us home made yogurt and granola to munch on in the mornings and provided us with the coziest barn loft to stay in. We also stopped by one of my favorite cafes, Vergennes Laundry, for some coffee and breakfast. Delicious! Back in January just after the New Year, I made my Yia Yia’s Greek New Year’s bread! I definitely wanted to photograph it as it’s a recipe we’ve had every year. You divide it up between everyone in the house hold and whoever gets the coin in their slice of bread gets good luck for the year! A fun tradition.
