Home Grown

Hey there, I haven’t blogged in a little while, for me anyway, so here’s a little update for you.

You know what I love? Fresh produce and local food. It just feels better eating it because I know it was made just around the corner instead of shipped to me from some place far away where I don’t know what they are doing to it, putting in it, or spraying it with. You know? I really enjoy the local farms around here and it was something I always loved about living in Western Mass. (Which I need to visit soon because all the farm stands are up and running!). I drove around the other day looking for some locations for possible shoots and I decided I would stop at some local farms or farm stands if I saw anything interesting. I ended up at Carter Hill Farm and right when I got out of my car I was overtaken by the most inviting scent. They were making their Apple Cider donuts. If you live in the area, you need to try them. They are almost too good to be true.

Apple Hill Farm is another great place. It’s where my brother and I went strawberry and blueberry picking (Pie Post!). They have all kinds of great food they produce themselves. My dad, brother and I went there and got apple cider, bread, some veggies and things, all home grown and made. So yummy!

And lastly, my mom’s Boyfriend has his own little garden where he grows some veggies. He brought over some peppers and I couldn’t help but photograph them. Chili peppers have a lot of personality:)

I have a whole lot of awesome photo things coming up! I can’t wait to share them with you. It’s been a great week for photography opportunities and I am so grateful.

As always, I hope you enjoy!

Oh and I took some wine photos for my mom! haha.

On White

Today I was feeling a little weird because I hadn’t shot anything in a few days. Yes, I NEED to shoot. All the time. I’m kind of obsessed. I wasn’t really sure what to shoot, I’ve been really wanting to do some more portraiture, but I don’t have any photo buddies close by, and all my lovely friends who are always willing to model for me, have gone back to school. I need to find some local models to shoot with.
Anyway, I just came to the conclusion that I would shoot things on white, and see how it goes. I went to an antique shop the other day and bought a few items to use as props. I bought some old napkins, berry baskets (see my last post), and a tea cup with a saucer. My dad’s girlfriend Kaye also gave me these really pretty spoons to use!:)I’m always looking for props these days, and I’m usually the youngest person in the antique shops, but it’s fun and there’s always all kinds of neat things to find!

Hope you like them!
There are more on my Flickr site, check em out!

Tomorrow I’m heading down to Boston to visit food photographer,Gary Tardiff’s studio. I’m very excited and can’t wait to sit in on a food product shoot with a food stylist and everything. I’m really grateful that I was able to talk with Gary and that he’s letting me come down. I’ll let you know how it goes.

jbakos31 - Kelsey! I miss you too! I will definitely send you one! :) Hope the start of school is going well, I miss Portland!

Just a short post. Went and bought a bag of apples the other day with my little brother and we’ve been making things and eating them all week. It’s been feeling a lot like autumn here lately and it’s hard not to get into that mindset. I’ve been enjoying the cooler weather. I love summer but fall is definitely one of my favorite times too. I love sweatshirt and pants weather, and being from New Hampshire, the leaves changing is something I look forward to every year. Of course it’s supposed to be 90 degrees tomorrow and I’m heading up to Maine to go to the beach with my mom, and next weekend going camping with her for her birthday! The last few days of summer have arrived. My little brothers go back to school next week and my college friends have already moved back. It’s weird that I won’t be going back to school and I definitely would not mind going back to Hallmark for another year. I can’t even begin to say how much I miss it and the people that were there with me.

Here’s some pictures to ease into this lovely season… hope you enjoy! More to come later on…

That pie was delicious.

Lastly a picture of my little brother, Hunter. I was just messing around with my lights outside.

jbakos31 - Thanks Tyler! :) I’m working on it!

Hey again!
A few weeks ago I got a job to assist a wedding photographer down in Danvers, MA. I’ve never shot a wedding before and it was definitely a challenge. I’m really used to taking time to plan and set up a shot, and when shooting a wedding you really have to be ready to capture the moment. It was tough because I have 2 fixed lenses, which obviously takes time to switch if need be, which also means missing moments. It was hard! I have huge respect for wedding photographers and I love wedding photography, but I definitely want to stick to becoming a food photographer:)It was a great learning experience and I would definitely like to try it again, now that I know what it’s like. The wedding was very non traditional. No toasts, no throwing of the bouquet and what not. It was fun though and I could tell these people were so in love and had a great bond with family and friends. It was good to see:)Enjoy!

Remember to breathe

I just got back from another amazing trip at my favorite camping place, White Lake. We were blessed with beautiful weather, not a single drop of rain. The air was dry and with a slight chill, and you could feel that fall is just around the corner. It was so comfortable. Every evening we were lucky to see a different sunset, always a different color. We went kayaking and did a few short hikes further up North. It was great. Another one to remember. My family and I are so close and we are always able to state our views and opinions of life. Whenever a campfire is set up and chairs are around, we get into all kinds of deep conversations. I’m not sure why it happens but I’m glad it does. I am extremely lucky to have the family that I do. They are all so smart, funny and helpful, I couldn’t be more grateful. Of course we all make fun of each other and argue about stupid things, it’s all part of it. I love them.

I took a lot of photos of course. I loved capturing these times and can’t wait to look back on them later in life. Also I can’t believe that fall is almost here! Some of the leaves have already started to turn and the days are getting shorter. This time of year makes me feel so nostalgic and reminiscent. Autumn has always been a time of change and new beginnings for me. I hope that holds true and in a positive way, and I hope you enjoy the pictures.
